Highlights
History
Rathbarry National School, located 6 miles (approx) near Clonakilty, West Cork was built in 1950 to cater for both boys and girls in the surrounding area. A new extension was built in 2014. There are two class teachers and one Special Education Teacher at present. We have a part–time secretary and a part-time caretaker.

A special setting
Located near Clonakilty and Rosscarbery, on the Wild Atlantic Way and within walking distance of Long Strand, our school enjoys a very beautiful and picturesque setting which lend themselves to an exciting range of outdoor activities.

New ExtensionS
We have undergone exciting changes over the last number of years with two building extensions in 2014 and 2020. Both classrooms ensure a spacious and inviting learning environment for our pupils.
Craft-ED
We have participated in CraftEd, Cork County Council's Artists in Schools and Heritage in Schools initiatives.
Sciath na Scol
The highlight of the summer term is always the Sciath na Scol Competition.
Creative Schools
We have been chosen by the Department of Education and Skills as one of the pilot schools involved in the Creative Schools Project in the STEM subjects (Science, technology, engineering, arts and Maths).
Local Performance
Pupils recently performed at Castlefreke Castle and for the local Active Retirement Group.
Book Week
Each year we invite authors to our school to celebrate Book Week. Over the past few years we have had Oísín McGann, Niamh Ahern and Kieran Mark Crowley.
